pavement

Fractured bedrock: polygonal plates, each tilted and stepped, parted by cracks or raised ridges, split again by finer octaves of cracks; lays bedrock over the material map.

Key Type Default Range Unit Description
plate_size number 1.0 (0, inf) m Mean plate width, in metres.
jitter number 1.0 [0, 1] How far plate centres stray from a square lattice, from 0 (square plates) to 1.
warp number 0.15 [0, inf) Bend and roughness of the plate edges, in plate sizes.
crack_width number 0.05 (0, inf) m Width of the cracks between plates, in metres.
crack_depth number 0.05 [0, inf) m Depth of the cracks, or height of the ridges when raised, in metres.
raised boolean false Whether plates are parted by raised ridges instead of cracks.
edge_rounding number 0.02 [0, inf) m Width of the rounded shoulder beside each crack, in metres.
max_tilt number 0.05 [0, 1.5708) rad Largest tilt of a plate, in radians.
max_step number 0.03 [0, inf) m Largest height offset of a plate, up or down, in metres.
octaves integer 1 [1, 8] Crack octaves, 1 to 8: each finer octave splits every plate again, its cracks ending at the plate's edges.
lacunarity number 2.0 (1, inf) Plate size ratio between octaves, above 1.
gain number 0.5 (0, 1] Ratio of crack width, depth, rounding, tilt and step between octaves, in (0, 1].
seed integer 1 Seed of the plates.
exposure_spacing number 1.0 (0, inf) m Spacing in metres the ground is read at for the exposure field.
anchor_x number 0.0 On a body, the longitude in degrees of the point whose tangent frame the plates are laid out in.
anchor_y number 0.0 On a body, the latitude in degrees of the anchor.
exposure: Shows plates only where the ground beneath is bare bedrock, fading out over soil; unset shows them everywhere.
Key Type Default Range Unit Description
reach number 12.0 (0, inf) m Distance in metres around a point at which its surroundings are read, to tell rises from lows.
rise_soil number 0.01 Height above the surroundings, as a share of the reach, at or below which the ground is soil.
rise_boulder number 0.035 Height above the surroundings, as a share of the reach, at or above which the ground is bedrock; above the soil threshold.
slope_soil number 0.2 Slope, as rise over run, at or under which soil holds.
slope_boulder number 0.4 Slope, as rise over run, at or over which no soil holds and the ground is bedrock; above the soil threshold.
floor_cover number 0.0 [0, 1) Share of level ground that is bedrock too, in noise patches, as on a swept lava floor; from 0 to below 1, and 0 for none.
floor_patch number 60.0 (0, inf) m Width of the bedrock patches on level ground, in metres.
seed integer 0 Seed of the bedrock patches on level ground.
fade: How plates and cracks too fine for the sample spacing fade out, by samples across them.
Key Type Default Range Unit Description
start_samples number 2.0 [0, inf) Samples across a feature's diameter up to which it is left out entirely.
end_samples number 4.0 (0, inf) Samples across a feature's diameter from which it is applied in full; it fades in between the two counts.
shape one of linear, smoothstep, smootherstep, gaussian "smoothstep" Curve of the fade between the start and end sample counts.
